AERATION
Core Aeration Services
Give Your Lawn Room to Breathe
In Georgia, our beautiful lawns grow on a foundation of heavy red clay. Over time, this clay becomes compacted due to foot traffic, lawn mowers, and heavy rains. When soil is compacted, your grass is effectively “suffocated”—it can’t get the air, water, or nutrients it needs to survive.
At Liberty Turf, our professional Core Aeration service is the “reset button” your lawn needs to thrive.
🌱 What is Core Aeration?
Core aeration is the process of using a professional machine to remove small plugs (or “cores”) of soil and thatch from your lawn. Unlike “spike” aerators that just push the dirt down, our core aerators actually pull soil out, creating thousands of tiny tunnels that lead directly to the root zone.
The Benefits are Instant:
Relieves Soil Compaction: Loosens the tight Georgia clay so roots can spread deep and wide.
Enhances Nutrient Absorption: Allows fertilizer and water to reach the roots instead of washing away.
Improves Oxygen Exchange: Let’s your soil “breathe,” promoting the growth of beneficial soil microbes.
Reduces Thatch Buildup: Helps break down the layer of dead organic matter that can harbor pests and disease.
📅 When Should You Aerate?
Timing is everything. We time our aeration services to coincide with the peak growing season of your specific grass type to ensure the fastest recovery and best results.
For Bermuda and Zoysia Lawns (Warm-Season)
Best Time: Late Spring through early Summer (May – July).
Why: This is when these grasses are growing most aggressively. They quickly fill in the core holes with new, healthy green growth.
For Tall Fescue Lawns (Cool-Season)
Best Time: Early Fall (September – October).
Why: Fescue lawns are typically aerated in conjunction with Overseeding. This provides the perfect “pocket” for new seeds to fall into, ensuring high germination rates.

❓ What to Expect After Aeration
The “Cores” on Your Lawn: After service, your lawn will be covered in small soil plugs. Don’t rake them up! These plugs contain valuable nutrients and microorganisms. They will naturally break down and disappear back into the soil after a few mows or a heavy rain.
Watering is Key: For the best results, we recommend a deep watering within 24 hours of aeration. This helps the soil stay loose and encourages the roots to begin diving into the new channels we’ve created.
